Alternative’s To Sun Tanning

4 Jan

Tanning from UV rays is bad, right? We’ve all heard it a million gazillion times. This blogger likes to fight against what everyone says and has a great excuse for everyone to continue using tanning beds and the natural sun. It’s pretty good – check it out.
However, if there is nothing that could convince you to bake in an oven, there are some good alternatives that you could use. Of course, I am only going to tell you things that are budget-friendly for all you students out there. Students are the most likely to tan, right? I’m totally just making that up. I really have no idea who tans the most, but everyone could use a little budget-friendly safe sun so let’s go with it!

My absolutely favourite alternative for tanning is a great spray tan. You can go to salons for this, but it will definitely cost you a little bit more than if you were you do it yourself! Luminess Air is definitely the best spray tan that I have tried, that you can do from home. You have to be careful to moisturize every morning and night after to spray tan to make sure that it comes off gracefully. If you fail to do so, the tan will literally peel/rub off in some places. It’s bad. I always forgot to moisturize my neck and well, after I few days I looked like I had a dirt filled body. Seriously. It was bad.

Luminess Air can be a bit pricier if this isn’t your idea of a budget-friendly option, so there are tons of  Tanning lotions that you can use. I have tried a lot. A LOT. And a lot of those being absolutely horrible. The best one I have tried is from Sun Lab. You still have to be careful when applying this lotion, but it goes on black, so you can see the places that are uneven or that you need to rub in more. It’s a smart cookie, I tell ya’!

Those are definitely the top home spray tan system and tanning lotion that I suggest.  Let me know what you guys think!

What Are REALLY Career Choosing Sites?

30 Dec

Career choosing can suck. Actually, it’s not that is necessarily sucks but it sure as heck can be difficult. What if you know what field you want to go into, but have no idea what type of careers fall into that category. I know for myself, when I think of jobs I automatically think of the typical jobs, like a career in education, a police officer, taxi driver or a librarian. I never think of a agricultural chemistry job or a addictions nurse.
There! Right there is a perfect example of what I’m trying to say. Say you want to be a nurse, but have no idea what kind of nurse or field of nursing you want to be in! I honestly made a list of type of nurses the other day, and to my amazement the list was a lot longer than I thought it would be. I’m talking 50 kind of nurse positions… and I’m sure there’s even more than that. That’s only as far as I went before I gave up. Conclusion: There’s a lot of nursing jobs.

But seriously though. There are so many careers that you really wouldn’t know of, or think about if it wasn’t for amazing websites and resources that inform you about them. Some of my favourite sites for career choosing are listed below to help you decide specifically, what you’d like to be.

I’m just here to make your life that much easier. You’re welcome.

The first website I want to share with you is going to help you with degree and career choosing because of course, you need to start with schooling. Duh.

Another amazing career site you should check out is this one which is all for students trying to figure out what in the world you’d like to do.

I know some specific sites for career choosing in computers and communications as well as medicine careers and even career choosing for the dream job.

These sites should be just enough information for you, but if you still want to do some more searching, try out this site or a quick look into google will bring up a million other options for you!

Good luck and I hope this narrowed down your extensive list of career possibilities… or increased it!

What College Is Right For You?

21 Dec

I know the feeling! There are a million colleges to choose from that all specialize in your specific career path and offer “the best online courses for you!” It seems like every college is the college that you should go to. It can definitely be difficult to see behind the marketing smiles and sayings of each and every school and see which one will actually be the perfect fit for you to attend.

Pub Quiz
Online quizzes are a great way to see which schools would be a good choice for you. Of course, you don’t want to go onto just any site that anyone could have created. You want to know that the information you are receiving is legitimate, yet honest… and definitely something unbiased! Remember in grade 10 when you had careers class and you took all those quizzes to see which career was the perfect fit for you, your personality, goals and dreams? Well it’s kind of like that, only for figuring out which college is right for you.

Seventeen is a prestigious magazine for teens just like you. Their website offers a quiz that you can take to match you up with a college to your taste.

Another magazine offering quizzes to help you with your decision is Alloy.

Another website that I would suggest taking their quiz is on myusearch!

USNEWS offers a really good quiz as well!

What I would suggest is taking all the courses that you possible can, and see which college comes up the most for you. Do some research and see if the quizzes are right. At least it’ll give you some lead way on your decision! There are a whole bunch of other sites that offer sites so do a search and see what comes up for you!

For now, good luck! Remember that college choosing should be fun!

How to get around in college?

14 Dec

Sure, transportation option can seem limited when your budget is barely manageable and your parents won’t buy you a car or lend you their extra one, and heck… we all know you can’t afford to finance one of those with all those student loans you have coming out of your… well you know what. Sure, you have that weird scholarship that pays for some of your school, but we all know you at least have your credit card almost maxed from the text-book purchases. Car’s just aren’t always that realistic when it comes to school and costs. So what are you supposed to do and how are you supposed to get around?

Cabs are expensive… speaking from experience. I just dished out $50 to get home from a party. Aside from my bank account being at zero, I’m thoroughly (for lack of better words) pissed that I seriously dished out that much money for a ride home. It’s pretty insane. On the bright side, this is always a last resort if you need to get somewhere immediately. Plus, a lot of companies allow a card that works like a visa for their cab company. Maybe try to convince your parents to help you out with that?

However, if your parents are anything like mine, they will say, helllllllllllls no to that request! So what are some other options? A bus. Yes, I said it… a bus. Now, I personally despise buses. They take forever, make stops that aren’t necessary for my travel, they smell… and more times than often, weirdos are on there. However, it is a great way of transportation for students and a lot of bus routes are specific for the colleges and universities so the route isn’t completely “out of your way” or long.
Fire Chief's car

Bus passes or tickets do cost money too though, and if you’re really trying to find a way to not spend any money and still be able to get around as you please, use those amazing limbs that our parents successfully birthed us with. If walking to your destination will take too long, there’s always bikes or roller blades, skateboards or scooters.

Unfortunately in school, we don’t have the luxury of having the nicest things and the most convenient lifestyle, so you’re going to have to work with what you have.

Sure, buses and walking can suck… but at least you’ll be able to pay those loans off quicker so you can buy that super nice  car that you’ve been dreaming about all your life!

Are Online Courses For Everyone?

7 Dec

Although I would like to tell you that online college courses are for everyone, the truth is that they are not typical for everyone. Now don’t get me wrong, anyone can do online courses, but it is up to you to change your bad habits and really commit to the class and work that needs to be done. What I mean by this is if you usually need someone to push you to get your work done, taking online classes will be a struggle for you.

When doing online college courses, you are working with no supervision, no teacher standing over your head telling you to get your work done, and more times than not, deadlines are not as set in stone as they are with traditional classes. As mentioned, if you really want to do your courses online, absolutely, but if you are a student that gets distracted easily, or priorities tend to get a little mixed up, or procrastination is your middle name, it will be much more difficult for you.

I am not trying to deter you from online college classes, because it offers amazing flexibility to your schedule, but be sure you know what you are getting into before proceeding.

Online classes are done on your own time and own speed. You will not have a teacher reminding you about the assignment due tomorrow, or the 30% test that is coming next week. These are things that you will be fully responsible for remembering and preparing yourself for. With that said, organizational skills will definitely be a benefit to those who do take online courses.

Deadlines seem to be a little different with online courses, as well. As opposed to an assignment being due on Monday, your course may give you all the projects with the date for all of them being at the end of the semester. You guessed it, time management is going to be a handy thing to have under your belt.

Along with organizational skills and time management, you need to be dedicated and committed to your work. I know so many people who have slacked off on their online courses, and now while everyone’s going home to enjoy their Christmas holidays, these particular friends of mine as going to have to cram in all the assignments they said, “I’ll do it another day” too.

Sucks, right?

So be sure to have your priorities in check. You will need to apple self-discipline, stay focused and manage your time well. Some people naturally have these traits, but if you do not and still want to take online courses, remember to work extra hard at the things mentioned in this article.

Cool Gadgets To Keep In Touch

1 Dec

Of course, everyone now a days pretty much has a cell phone, but when you’re miles away going to school, and not making a huge amounts of money, keeping up with those bills can be a tad difficult if you’re calling back home constantly. Can you imagine if you’re overseas or even in just a different country? Even texting would kill your bank account. So what cool gadgets can you get to stay in touch and keep your bills down?

Well first, gadgets do cost money, but I am only going to share with you gadgets that are totally worth the one-time investment and that you don’t need to be a software engineer to understand how they work. Let’s be honest… I’m not very tech savvy so if I can figure these bad boys out, so can you!

My favourite is definitely the iPhone. And gosh darn, it is very expensive. But…. but…. (there’s always a but, isn’t there?) iPhone’s have facetime! It’s a video chat for your iPhone friends and family! Doesn’t cost anything, all you need is a wifi connection and you can facetime anywhere you are, as long as your friends have an iphone as well!

On the other side of technology competition, there is the Blackberry Playbook. Yeah I know, contradicting my opinions here. However, the playbook is much cheaper than an iPhone or iPad and has video chat as well. Again, free but you need to have wifi and the other person has to have a playbook as well. But it’s totally awesome and fun.

I love both of these gadgets that I have, but if you really do not want to invest the money (you should – they’re awesome) then you can always use Skype. Free download… online, can skype anyone if they have it downloaded too. It’s not always the best, but it works!

And those, my friends, are my favourite gadgets to stay in touch with friends and family.

How To Avoid The Black Friday Mobs?

23 Nov

So you’re a college student and you’re obviously on some sort of budget. It doesn’t matter whether you’re living at home, rent-free or going to one of the best online schools, you are on some sort2115_4782.JPG of allowance. Whether your parents set it for you, or you have a million, gazillion bills (like me), you have a limit that you have set yourself and unfortunately for most students, this doesn’t allow a lot of extra spending. It sucks.. I know! I am a true shopping at heart. It breaks me every time when I look at my bank account and realize that I don’t have the extra funds to buy that cute sweater or my favourite movie that just came out on DVD!

(drum roll please)

…this is the time to let yourself go a little bit over budget because it will be worth it in the end. I mean, you probably don’t even have to go over budget because I am talking about BLACK FRIDAY where everything is on sale. And no, I’m not talking about just any sale.. I’m talking about AMAZINGLY on sale. Discounts to the max and oh boy, I am getting so excited! Can you tell?

Okay, but we all hate the crowds or we strictly don’t have the time to take out of our studying, or online classes to rampage through stores alongside other crazed people and mobs. I get it, because who really has  the time to do this? Apparently one too many people.

So, the alternative to avoiding the Black Friday mobs but getting the BLACK FRIDAY deals is CYBER MONDAY. Yes, it is called Cyber Monday, but I hate calling it that because tons of stores have already started their deals, sales and mark downs on their sites. Therefore, we get to shop for deals sooner than everyone else!

We’re a step ahead of the game! But seriously, this is an amazing way to still swag those Black Friday deals but not have to go through the hassle of crowds and lines.

Amazing, right?
