How to get around in college?

14 Dec

Sure, transportation option can seem limited when your budget is barely manageable and your parents won’t buy you a car or lend you their extra one, and heck… we all know you can’t afford to finance one of those with all those student loans you have coming out of your… well you know what. Sure, you have that weird scholarship that pays for some of your school, but we all know you at least have your credit card almost maxed from the text-book purchases. Car’s just aren’t always that realistic when it comes to school and costs. So what are you supposed to do and how are you supposed to get around?

Cabs are expensive… speaking from experience. I just dished out $50 to get home from a party. Aside from my bank account being at zero, I’m thoroughly (for lack of better words) pissed that I seriously dished out that much money for a ride home. It’s pretty insane. On the bright side, this is always a last resort if you need to get somewhere immediately. Plus, a lot of companies allow a card that works like a visa for their cab company. Maybe try to convince your parents to help you out with that?

However, if your parents are anything like mine, they will say, helllllllllllls no to that request! So what are some other options? A bus. Yes, I said it… a bus. Now, I personally despise buses. They take forever, make stops that aren’t necessary for my travel, they smell… and more times than often, weirdos are on there. However, it is a great way of transportation for students and a lot of bus routes are specific for the colleges and universities so the route isn’t completely “out of your way” or long.

Bus passes or tickets do cost money too though, and if you’re really trying to find a way to not spend any money and still be able to get around as you please, use those amazing limbs that our parents successfully birthed us with. If walking to your destination will take too long, there’s always bikes or roller blades, skateboards or scooters.

Unfortunately in school, we don’t have the luxury of having the nicest things and the most convenient lifestyle, so you’re going to have to work with what you have.

Sure, buses and walking can suck… but at least you’ll be able to pay those loans off quicker so you can buy that super nice  car that you’ve been dreaming about all your life!
