Cool Gadgets To Keep In Touch

1 Dec

Of course, everyone now a days pretty much has a cell phone, but when you’re miles away going to school, and not making a huge amounts of money, keeping up with those bills can be a tad difficult if you’re calling back home constantly. Can you imagine if you’re overseas or even in just a different country? Even texting would kill your bank account. So what cool gadgets can you get to stay in touch and keep your bills down?

Well first, gadgets do cost money, but I am only going to share with you gadgets that are totally worth the one-time investment and that you don’t need to be a software engineer to understand how they work. Let’s be honest… I’m not very tech savvy so if I can figure these bad boys out, so can you!

My favourite is definitely the iPhone. And gosh darn, it is very expensive. But…. but…. (there’s always a but, isn’t there?) iPhone’s have facetime! It’s a video chat for your iPhone friends and family! Doesn’t cost anything, all you need is a wifi connection and you can facetime anywhere you are, as long as your friends have an iphone as well!

On the other side of technology competition, there is the Blackberry Playbook. Yeah I know, contradicting my opinions here. However, the playbook is much cheaper than an iPhone or iPad and has video chat as well. Again, free but you need to have wifi and the other person has to have a playbook as well. But it’s totally awesome and fun.

I love both of these gadgets that I have, but if you really do not want to invest the money (you should – they’re awesome) then you can always use Skype. Free download… online, can skype anyone if they have it downloaded too. It’s not always the best, but it works!

And those, my friends, are my favourite gadgets to stay in touch with friends and family.

How To Avoid The Black Friday Mobs?

23 Nov

So you’re a college student and you’re obviously on some sort of budget. It doesn’t matter whether you’re living at home, rent-free or going to one of the best online schools, you are on some sort2115_4782.JPG of allowance. Whether your parents set it for you, or you have a million, gazillion bills (like me), you have a limit that you have set yourself and unfortunately for most students, this doesn’t allow a lot of extra spending. It sucks.. I know! I am a true shopping at heart. It breaks me every time when I look at my bank account and realize that I don’t have the extra funds to buy that cute sweater or my favourite movie that just came out on DVD!

However…

(drum roll please)

…this is the time to let yourself go a little bit over budget because it will be worth it in the end. I mean, you probably don’t even have to go over budget because I am talking about BLACK FRIDAY where everything is on sale. And no, I’m not talking about just any sale.. I’m talking about AMAZINGLY on sale. Discounts to the max and oh boy, I am getting so excited! Can you tell?

Okay, but we all hate the crowds or we strictly don’t have the time to take out of our studying, or online classes to rampage through stores alongside other crazed people and mobs. I get it, because who really has  the time to do this? Apparently one too many people.

So, the alternative to avoiding the Black Friday mobs but getting the BLACK FRIDAY deals is CYBER MONDAY. Yes, it is called Cyber Monday, but I hate calling it that because tons of stores have already started their deals, sales and mark downs on their sites. Therefore, we get to shop for deals sooner than everyone else!

HA!

We’re a step ahead of the game! But seriously, this is an amazing way to still swag those Black Friday deals but not have to go through the hassle of crowds and lines.

Amazing, right?

What Are The Benefits Of Online Courses?

18 Oct

You may not think that there is a big difference between online college courses and traditional college courses, but there is! Taking online courses instead of traditional ones can actually be very beneficial to the student.
College Gameday

Of course, the biggest benefit of taking online college courses is the flexibility it gives you. You can do the course whenever, wherever and take as much time as you please, within reason of course. As long as you have your laptop, WI-fi (or a rocket stick) then you’re good to go! Online courses are great for students that have a busy schedule due to work… or lots of partying. Hey… I’m not judging! A lot of single-parents take courses online and even athletes! I know a lot of people who are professional hockey players and they get paid big bucks to play a sport, but they want that degree under their belt and with next to no available time and constantly traveling, they decided to complete their goal by taking online courses. Genius, right?

Another huge benefit is that taking courses online saves you money! Don’t believe me? Consider the costs of student residency if you were to go away for college. Most places also charge plus utilities – so up goes your expenses dramatically. On top of that, you have transportation costs, either your car (insurance and gas) or a bus pass. Don’t forget Moneythat you will need to eat, so add groceries onto that list as well… and trust me, the list is endless.  That’s a couple thousand dollars (on average) that you’re saving a month just by taking online courses. I don’t know about you but this sounds golden!

Due to growth in online programs, you have the luxury of studying anything you want with whatever school you want. Okay, maybe not anything and any school – but it’s getting there. Tons of programs and degrees can be earned from online courses, and a bunch of schools that are offering these opportunities.

Ultimately, you get to do school when you want to do school and work it around your schedule, save money and study what you want to study. Can it get much better then that?

What is a good alternative for Nail Salon visits?

20 Sep

Of course with being students, we don’t have the time or money to go to a Nail Salon whether it be weekly, or monthly. We just can’t do it and if we do, we feel guilty because that time or moola could have been spent in so many more important ways. I know, reality checks suck sometimes. Even if we are going to have high paying careers when we are finally finished school, I’m sure we can all agree that our school loans will be enough to pay off, so let’s avoid putting unnecessary Salon visits on our debt lists, okay? Phew! Now that I am done giving you the “save your money” motherly lecture… let’s get into the fun stuff!

So I did some brainstorming and came up with alternatives to those addicting Salon visits and Salon effects that we all love so much. Here are some of my suggestions and even if it will cost you a little more upfront, you will be saving money in the end. Trust a girl who knows what she’s talking about! 😉

SALLY HANSEN SALON EFFECTS: Easiest, fastest, bestest. Wait, is that even a word? These are really great, and last about 10 days. Quick and easy to apply, and definitely a lot cheaper then getting a nail design at your local Salon. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather spend $10 instead of $50 and save about an hour of time!

BOOKS: Get prepared. If you want to do your own nails but do not know what in the world you are doing, invest in a book about it. Get all the knowledge so you can save some money and do it yourself and for your friends. Can anyone say, SLUMBER PARTY!! Okay, but on a serious note, I recommend Pro Nail Care: Salon Secrets of the Professionals.

ASK YOUR FRIENDS: Some people are just naturally gifted with a steady hand and talent. I had a roommate that was fabulous with nails so I refused to do mine and always made her do it! HAHA! Hey, there has to be some bonus to having a roommate, right? Also, a lot of artsy-people (painters, drawers etc) can do nails! Ask around!

BEAUTY CLUB: Join a beauty club. A lot of the times you can find these online, and aside from giving you online courses, you can get amazing discounts, tips and tricks that you wouldn’t have otherwise known!

STORE DISCOUNTS: This coincides with the beauty club. A lot of stores offer a special members discount card, so if you plan on stocking up on your nail polishes and materials, might as well save some money while doing so, right?
